OFF TO LUNARIA MUNȚILOR!
Somewhere in the Land of the Illuminated Maps, an otherwise perfectly peaceful morning has just become considerably louder.
A suitcase lies open on the bed.
Half the wardrobe is inside it.
The other half is on the floor.
And in the middle of the room, wearing a spectacular floral shirt, an explorer’s hat and a pair of enormous yellow duck slippers, Fulgerică Străbunel is dancing.
With a megaphone.
Naturally.
🎶 FULGERICĂ SINGS:

FULGERICĂ:
TATIIII! GOOD MORNING!
TATA:
I can hear that. I believe the entire neighborhood can.
FULGERICĂ:
EXCELLENT! Then the megaphone works!
TATA:
Why are you shouting into a megaphone in your bedroom?
FULGERICĂ:
I’m letting Valen and Sclipici know I’m coming!
TATA:
Fulgerică… they’re in Lunaria Munților.
FULGERICĂ:
I KNOW WHERE THEY LIVE, TATI!
TATA:
Then how exactly are they supposed to hear you from here?
FULGERICĂ:

Maybe I should turn up the volume.
TATA:
NO!
Tata looks at the open suitcase.
TATA:
Are you taking all of that?
FULGERICĂ:
Of course not!
TATA:
Good.
FULGERICĂ:
Some of it is staying on the floor.
TATA:
…
FULGERICĂ:
I haven’t decided which part yet.
Tata notices the slippers.
TATA:
And the ducks?
FULGERICĂ:
What about them?
TATA:
Are you going hiking in duck slippers?
Fulgerică looks down at his feet.
FULGERICĂ:
Tati…
TATA:
Yes?
FULGERICĂ:
These are my DANCING ducks.
TATA:
Ah.
FULGERICĂ:
My HIKING ducks are in the suitcase.
TATA:
YOU HAVE TWO PAIRS?!
FULGERICĂ:
Three. The third pair is for special occasions.
Tata sits on the edge of the bed, laughing.
TATA:
You’re really happy about this trip, aren’t you?
Fulgerică puts down the megaphone.
FULGERICĂ:
Oh, Tati…
His enormous eyes sparkle behind his glasses.
FULGERICĂ:
I get to see Valen and Sclipici again!
TATA:
I know, my boy.
FULGERICĂ:
We have so many things to do!
TATA:
Should I be worried?
FULGERICĂ:
Not yet!
TATA:
That’s reassuring.
FULGERICĂ:
And when I come back, I’ll tell you EVERYTHING!
TATA:
I’m looking forward to it.
FULGERICĂ:
Well… almost everything.
TATA:

Fulgerică immediately abandons his suitcase, his megaphone and his very important expedition preparations.
He runs straight into Tata’s hug.
TATA:
Have the most wonderful time, my little explorer.
FULGERICĂ:
I will, Tati!
TATA:
And come home whenever you feel like coming home.
FULGERICĂ:
Of course!
He gives Tata one more enormous hug.
FULGERICĂ:
I love you and Mami all the way to the stars!
TATA:
And we love you all the way back, Străbunel.
A moment of silence.
Then Fulgerică suddenly remembers something.
FULGERICĂ:
TATI!
TATA:
What now?
FULGERICĂ:
YOU HAVEN’T HEARD THE SECOND VERSE!
TATA:
OH, NO—
🎶 „VALEN! SCLIPICI! VIN ACUM!”
The megaphone is back.
So are the dancing ducks.
And somewhere in Lunaria, a perfectly peaceful morning has officially ended.

Well… he’s sitting on it.
The megaphone is still working.
