Dad stopped in the doorway.
“MINI?!”
“Yes, Daddy?”
“Sweetheart… how is that whole thing still standing?!”
MINI looked at the towers, bridges, and the globe balanced among his building blocks.
“I don’t know!”
“What do you mean, you don’t know?!”
“Well… I put the blocks there, and they stayed!”
“And what if they fall?”
MINI shrugged.
“I’ll build it again!”
Dad sat down beside him.
“Doesn’t it bother you that you don’t know why it’s standing?”
MINI shook his head.
“Nope. I’m happy it’s standing!”
Then he thought for a moment.
“Daddy, do we have to know why something exists to be happy about it?”
Dad smiled.
“No, sweetheart.”
“Good! Then tomorrow I’ll ask Ury why it stays up!”
MINI picked up another block.
“And what are you doing now?” Dad asked.
“Adding one more!”
“WHERE, MINI?!”
“I don’t know yet!”
The whole construction wobbled.
Dad froze.
MINI burst out laughing.
“Daddy, want a cookie?”
“Yes, sweetheart. I think I need one.”
MINI handed him the plate.
“But don’t tell PICO how many I’ve eaten!”
“MINI! PICO IS THE GREAT TREASURER OF THE FAMILY!”
“I know, Daddy!”
“THEN WHY NOT?!”
MINI leaned closer and whispered conspiratorially:
“THAT’S EXACTLY WHY!”
